i hate it when i go places and i feel like i'm in a movie they would show on the sundance channel
or like i'm in one of the novels i read about veggie girls with pseudo librarian glasses and weird piercings

ok so i don't hate it i actually kind of find it humorous.
i'm standing in line at the dmv and this old man is talking and talking and talking to me about ww2 and italy. somehow i've shared that i'm going to london in a week and a half (who am i kidding i'm sharing this with everyone at this point)
he's still talking and finally i get a number.
i sit down and wait for them to call my number and i watch as the quintessential "typical" person comes through the door. there's the black guy with the shorts that are falling off rapping to himself, there's the hot white girl with the short shorts and the tiny tank top and long hair she keeps flipping over her shoulder, there's the older white woman who looks like she's very uncomfortable with the number of hispanic people in the building, there's the younger black woman who scowls as her cell phone rings and she lets into her boyfriend about his location and why the hell he didn't pick her up for lunch, there's the cool soon-to-be frat white boy who's getting his license for the first time with the overweight mother he keeps hauling out of the hallway to sign things for him and who gives his friend the slayer sign after he's done, there's about 20 hispanic people with their children who look like they've worked very hard their entire lives but who's children seem to be the happiest of all the children in the room, there's this mother and her litte white boy who keeps whining about his gameboy's batteries, there's the old man who's now talking to a young hispanic girl who clearly speaks no english, and then there's me . . . in the corner writing stories in my head about all of these people who have taken time out to come get horrible pictures taken and put on a plastic card.
when i leave i make a point not to check out the picture on my card. at least until i get into my car and can properly examine the horror . . . it turns out i'm all hair in the picture.
